Team Beans helps launch incredible research project for kids with cancer

After Francesca died, Andy published a piece in the Washington Post detailing how we could help save future infants with brain cancer.
Today, we’re thrilled to announce that part of that dream — a central registry for kids with Francesca’s cancer — is being realized.
Team Beans is contributing $225,000 to build a registry for children with the same cancer as Francesca. It’s a groundbreaking project and this grant — our biggest yet — is going to help get it off the ground. This donation is only possible because of your past generosity to Team Beans.
When kids are diagnosed with ATRT, there’s very little information on treatment outcomes. For instance, we had no way to know the current survival rates for kids around Francesca’s age with her level of disease. Choosing treatment options was little more than a shot in the dark.
The top pediatric neuro-oncologists working on the registry as a part of the Pacific Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Consortium are looking to change that. They aim to enroll as many kids with ATRT as possible. They’ll track their treatment choices and outcomes. This information will help them figure out which treatments work best — making impossible decisions a little easier for families.
Our close-knit community has already worked hard to raise money for the registry. The doctors behind it tell us the Team Beans funds will help them start enrolling families in early 2023.
But they’ll need more for the project to reach its full potential.
